The "Quicksand" Will Dull Your Motivation

Updated: Apr 11, 2018

The second you find yourself in the quicksand is the second you'll realize you're struggling.

A quote I heard from an old coworker of mine has changed my whole perspective of life, and maybe it’ll change yours too:

“You can’t allow yourself to get lost in the quicksand."

You may be thinking "holy moly, wow this girl is crazy," but stick with me here as I get a little metaphorical.

The quicksand is the element of life that is able to cause your feet to get a little sticky and will eventually cause you to become stuck under it.

Whether it be poor self-image, an end of a relationship, or one event that seems to spiral a chain of other unfortunate events (such as spilling an entire tray of drinks on yourself self while waitressing… *cough cough* me), everyone has at least one moment where they feel stuck under a blanket of negativity.

The way I began to look at life after this was explained to me was to look at life as little “moments." Most moments are neutral and have no real emotion to them, but the others can be sorted into two major categories… good and bad. Although these individual moments do not seem to be much at first, they add up quickly and can definitely affect your perception.

Watch out for the "bad" moments.

In order to be successful, you have to look past the bad moments and push yourself to outwardly believe only good moments are going to follow. Brush off whatever that bad moment was, forget it even happened, and continue walking forward even more determined than you were before.

Your whole outlook on life is based on your attitude and capability to shake off those bad moments while you strive to have a good moment next.

Once you do this, I promise, you won’t feel like you’re #struggling anymore. Those bad moments are tough, and that quicksand is sticky, but I believe in you and I know you can do it.
